How detailed of a report can we generate from AutoPSI?

Let's break down what your AutoPSI report contains, using a typical external wall corner as an example.

Clear Visuals of Your Construction Detail

  • Detail Drawing: Your report will feature a clean, 2D cross-section of the junction you're analyzing. This drawing shows all the specified layers, from the outer brick leaf to the internal plasterboard, ensuring the model accurately represents your design.

  • Temperature Distribution Result: This is where your design's performance comes to life. 🌡️ AutoPSI generates a color-coded thermal map of the junction. This powerful visual instantly shows how temperature distributes across the detail. Warm colors (red/orange) represent the heated interior, while cool colors (blue/green) show the colder exterior. This map makes it incredibly easy to spot a "thermal bridge"—the exact path where heat is escaping.

Key Performance Metrics for Compliance & Efficiency

This is the core of your report. AutoPSI calculates two critical values that define your junction's performance, telling you if it's energy-efficient and safe from mould.

✅ Heat Loss: The Ψ-value (Psi-value)

  • What it is: The Linear Thermal Transmittance, or Ψ-value, quantifies the extra heat loss that occurs at a specific junction, over and above the heat lost through the plain wall. Think of it as measuring the energy leak at the seams of your building.

  • Why it matters: A lower Ψ-value means better energy performance. This value is essential for overall building energy calculations (like SAP in the UK) and demonstrating compliance with building regulations. In our example, the calculated Ψ-value is 0.036 W/m¡K.

✅ Condensation & Mould Risk: The Temperature Factor (fRsi)

  • The Temperature Factor is a critical safety check. It assesses if the internal surface temperature at the coldest point of the junction is warm enough to prevent condensation and, consequently, mould growth.

  • Why it matters: This value protects the health of the building and its occupants. The report compares your calculated fRsi value to a required critical value (e.g., 0.75 for UK residential buildings). If your value is higher, the risk is low. In our example, the result of 0.929 is well above the 0.75 threshold, indicating a Low Risk of mould.

*The risk of surface condensation or mould growth assessment follows the criteria in BRE Information Paper IP 1/06 Assessing the effects of thermal bridging at junctions and around openings

The Detailed Data Behind Your Results

For complete transparency and verification, your report includes all the inputs used in the calculation. This ensures your results are robust, traceable, and defensible.

Boundary Conditions

You can see the environmental conditions used for the simulation. This includes the assumed internal temperature (e.g., 20°C) and external temperature (e.g., 0°C), allowing you to model for specific climates or standards.

Materials List

The report provides a complete list of every material used in your junction. Each entry details the Thickness of the material and its Lambda (Îť) value (thermal conductivity). This table shows the precise buildup of the construction element and is the foundation for the entire calculation.

By combining detailed drawings, intuitive thermal maps, and precise performance metrics, an AutoPSI report gives you everything you need to design, verify, and build better, more energy-efficient buildings.
